Watch the 4th of July Parade in the Shade

Come and enjoy the Fourth of July parade in the shaded comfort of the Senior Citizens Tent. The tent will open at noon on Kirby across from the stadium with chairs and refreshments provided for seniors (55 years of age and older please).

There will be no bus shuttle service this year.  The bus service was originally implemented many years ago as a free service of the CU MTD.  MTD provided the bus service to the community at no cost to the the CCFCC.

However, about 6 years ago the federal department of transportation specifically prohibited the MTD from continuing to provide the free service to the July 4th events, claiming that to do so was a charter service.  MTD appealed the ruling, and lost.  One of the local bus companies then picked up the bus service for one year at a reduced price.  However, that deal lasted only for one year, since the bus companies found that they had to pay holiday pay(double overtime) to their drivers.  They have also had great difficulty in finding drivers who want to work on a holiday.  Last year the committee paid about $15 per person for the bus service it provided. (and that was the cheapest we could arrange!)

The Board of Directors felt that the cost of those bus services was not sustainable in the current economic climate.  We'd love to provide the service, but can't afford it any longer at those prices.  We've tried some fund raising ideas specifically for the bus service, without success.  Keep in mind that the CCFCC is 100% supported by donations from the public and from local businesses.
