Frequently Asked Questions

If you have a question not listed here, please contact us.

Q. Where may I park for the parade & evening show?
A. Please see our spectator guide.

Q. On what day are the events going to be held on this year?
A. Our festivities will ALWAYS be on July 4th, no matter what day of the week that may fall on.

Q. What happens if it rains or the wind is too high?
A. Should there be weather conditions that cause all or part of the event to be postponed or cancelled, the Committee & Board will make every effort to reschedule for the next day. If we are unable to have the parade on the 4th, it will not be rescheduled. In the event of postponments or cancellations, all local media outlets will be notified as soon as a decision is made.

Q. Why do the 5K Race-Walk and the Parade start 5 minutes after the hour?
A. I days gone by, community churches used to ring bells at the top of every hour. The parade start is traditionally signaled by a firework or cannon salute. A second salute will be made as the parade reaches the corner of Lincoln & Florida.

Q. Which organization is exclusively responsible for the days events, the University of Illinois, City of Champaign, Champaign Park District, etc?
A. The CCFCC is a registered corporation run solely by unpaid volunteers. Fortunately, the volunteers on the CCFCC board and committee work for various area businesses and government organizations. Their presence aids in the year-round coordination and planning of this event. The CCFCC itself is not affiliated with any of these organizations. In addition to the over 30-member Committee and Board, more than 150 other volunteers are needed for the day's activities.

Q. I already pay taxes why do you still need my donation?
A. The entire day of events are funded exclusively from citizen donations and business contributions. No tax-dollars are used in presenting this fun-filled day of celebration. We must raise approximately $90,000 to put together this event.

Q. How do I (or my organization) volunteer for the event?
A. We are always looking for enthusiastic individuals to help out with the days events. There are a number of areas for all skill levels. Please check out our Volunteer page or contact our Volunteer Coordinator for more information.

Q. Why can't I buy a drink from the regular food vendors?
A. Coca-Cola is a CCFC sponsor and we retain exclusive rights to sales of product. Since the event is occurring on University of Illinois property, we must also abide by the rules set forth by them. Please see our Concessions page for more information.
